We designed, fabricated and erected over 50 bespoke balconies at a development of luxury flats in Glasgow city centre.
Brise-soleil Style Balconies
Brise-soleil style balconies were fabricated from mild steel and featured a vertical bar in-fill balustrade with flat bar handrail. They also feature stainless steel woven mesh privacy screens and mild steel open mesh decking.
In total 3 bespoke balconies were designed, all of which incorporated the same detail, however each design was fabricated to a unique and unusual shape following the exact contours of the building. The design detail of the balustrade used on the balconies consisted of a vertical flat bar infill with a 100 x 10 flat bar top rail rolled to match the curvature of the balcony. Ambigrating flooring was also cut and shaped to match the balcony’s unique shape.
All of the balconies were designed to cantilever from the building. Fabricated in our workshops as fully welded frames the balconies were then bolted onsite to previously installed ‘first fit’ structural brackets fitted to the concrete floor slab using resin anchors. It was essential that our measurements for the balconies were 100% accurate and that they were fabricated to the exact drawing detail in order that they would fit directly onto the previously installed brackets. Our design, fabrication and installation teams worked closely together to ensure the balconies were successfully installed first time with no complications.
Structural Support & Secondary Steelwork
We also carried out structural support steelwork to the shop front on the ground floor where steel sections were rolled to match the curvature of the shops façade. The contract involved various other elements of secondary steelwork including a galvanized mild steel security gate with timber infill.
